Trip Overview
Pokhara is the gateway to amazing short treks and Muldai Trek is a short and lower-elevation trek near Pokhara. Muldai hill trek is a newly introduced beautiful trekking trail of the Annapurna region. It is an eight days short and fresh trek to the quiet and serene hills of Annapurna and a beautiful viewpoint called “Muldai”. Annapurna region itself is rich in natural and cultural diversity. Muldai Danda is situated at an elevation of 3,637 meters above sea level in the Annapurna Conservation Area. It was accessible for trekkers since 2000 but was overshadowed by other trekking routes in the same region. Muldai Hill Trek is a community-based trekking route. The view from the Muladi Danda is often compared with the view from Poon Hill. Because of the fewer trekking days and the less crowd around this trekking route, it is gaining a lot of popularity in recent years. Muldai viewpoint is one of the best spots for the sunrise and sunset view over the high mountains. It is situated at a higher altitude than Poon Hill. But the teahouse houses and lodges around the trekking trail are comparatively less than that of Poon Hill as the trekking route is less crowded.
Muldai Peak is one of the main attractions of this trek and amazing views of the mountain ranges can be seen from the top of the hill. The difficulty level of the trek is moderate and beginners with normal fitness levels can easily complete this trek. Similarly, the total distance covered during the trek is about 70 kilometers. Side trips during the trek make a difference in the total distance of the trek. The weather around Muldai Hill is mostly similar to Poon Hill. Amazing views of the mountain ranges can be seen during the early morning. Meanwhile, in the afternoon the clouds cover the mountain ranges. Muldai Hill is about 300 meters higher in altitude than Poon Hill. Because of that, there is a high chance of getting a better view. Autumn (September to Early December) and Spring (March to May) are the best seasons to travel to Muldai. During this season, the sky remains clear so that you can enjoy the crystalline views of Mountain ranges. Also, it offers amazing landscapes of lush green valleys, rhododendron forests, etc.
About Muldai Hill Trek
Muldai hill trek starts after a short drive to Ghandruk village from Pokhara. Ghandruk is a beautiful Gurung village situated at an altitude of 2,012 meters above sea level. Amazing views of Mt. Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Hiuchuli can be seen from this village. Ghandruk is one of the most popular villages to start the trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Some of the popular treks starting from Ghandruk include Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Mohare Danda Trek, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Khopra Ridge, Khayer Lake Trek, and many more.
Muldai Hill Trek starts from Birethanti after a two hours drive from Pokhara. Then walk to Ghandruk village, continue or drive to Ghandruk village and start the walk to Tadapani (2,630 m). After Tadapani, you will head toward the newly opened trekking trail known as the Muldai Hill trekking trail. Our trekking trail follows Dobato (3,420m). And finally, you will reach Muldai View Point (3,637 m). The ethnic groups residing here are Gurung, Magar, and Pun. Gurungs are prominent among them. Also, Visitors can experience the local lifestyle and gain knowledge about their distinct art, culture, and traditions.
Meanwhile, the trekking days are also shorter than that of the Poon Hill Trek. But the accommodations around the Muldai Hill trekking trails are not as developed as Poon Hill. Because of that, only a few tourists visit Muldai Hill and witness the fantastic mountain ranges from Muldai Peak. Always overshadowed by the Poon Hill trek and Khopra Ridge trek, the Muldai Peak trek is still in its original form.
Muldai Peak
Muldai Peak is located north of the beautiful Ghandruk village of the Gurung community. Meanwhile, the Muldai Peak borders the Kaski and Myagdi districts of the Dhaulagiri zone of Nepal. Only 2 days of the walk are needed to reach Dodato village. Meanwhile, Dobato is the nearest village offering the trekkers visiting the Muldai Danda or Muldai Peak.
Annapurna Muldai Peak trek will be the best for a photography tour in the Himalayas of Nepal. This trek is the best destination for bird watching too. Certainly, It provides you with a memorable experience of the Himalayan ecosystem and cultures. Moreover, This trek offers spectacular views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchchhre, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, etc. In addition, it presents beautiful landscapes and wide species of natural plants and animals.
Muldai trek is an ideal trek for those who are seeking to trek in the less crowded parts of the trekking trails. The hotel and lodges around these trekking trails are gradually increasing. Meanwhile, the community lodge established in 2010 has helped a lot for the trekkers visiting Muldai Peak. Because of the less number of trekkers in this region, it makes an ideal choice for the Muldai Hill Yoga Trek. You can do your yoga practice without any disturbance from other trekkers.

Travel Insurance:
Travel insurance is important before traveling to a new place especially when you are traveling for adventure. Travel insurance covers risks such as loss of personal belongings, and any unexpected expenses. Travel insurance also covers sudden medical emergencies such as accidents. It also covers high-altitude emergency evacuation in case of trekking. Travel insurance is not compulsory but highly recommended.
Medical Emergency:
If you face any serious medical emergency during your trekking program you will immediately evacuate the place through Helicopter Rescue which the traveler’s insurance company will cover. While trekking to the highlands of Nepal you may face minor health issues such as scratches, headaches, etc. For such a situation, your guide carries a well-equipped first aid kit, ensuring nothing happens to you.
High-Altitude Sickness:
During the Trek, you will walk through gorgeous valleys, traditional villages, and thrilling highlands above 3,000m elevation. Altitude sickness is unpredictable; it can happen to anyone despite being physically and mentally fit. As you gain altitude, the chances of getting altitude sickness also slightly increase. To avoid getting altitude sickness you should drink 5-6 lt water per/day and food with high carbohydrates. Walking slowly and acclimatizing decreases the chances of getting altitude sickness. Focus on your breathing and maintain your walking pace.
Packing List Suggestions:
Having a good backpack and necessary gear makes trekking easier. It becomes more important if you are trekking at higher elevations. If you are wondering about what to pack for trekking to the Annapurna region, then you can check our complete guide on the Nepal Trekking Gear Checklist. While making a backpack, it is important to include clothing, essential items, and a first aid kit. In difficult times, a good backpack can be life-saving.
