From Kathmandu, you will drive to Soti Khola to start the trek. Meanwhile, from Jomsom, you can get the option to fly or drive to Pokhara.

Larkya La

During the Manaslu Annapurna three passes trek, Larkya La Pass is the only pass that lies in the Manaslu region of Nepal. Situated at an altitude of 5,106 meters above sea level it is one of the highest passes in the whole Manaslu region. Similarly, it is also one of the popular passes of the Manaslu region as well as of Nepal. Larkya La Pass is located between Dharmashala and Bhimthang and is also the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. Amazing views of the snow-capped mountains can be seen from Larkya La Pass. The mountains include Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Gyagi Kung, Kang Koru, and Annapurna II.

Manaslu region of Nepal offers one of the best scenarios of the Himalayas. Although it is one of the isolated trekking regions of Nepal. The most popular trek of the Manaslu region includes the Manaslu Circuit Trek where Larkya La Pass is the highest point of the trek. According to other resources, it is believed that the actual altitude of the Larkya La pass is 5,210 meters above sea level. The actual altitude of this high pass is still in doubt. Acute Mountain Sickness is very common at this altitude. Because of that, a long itinerary is set to cross the Larkya La Pass to avoid altitude sickness.

Situated at an altitude of 5,306 meters above sea level you will cross some of the remote valleys of Nepal before crossing Kang La Pass. Tremendous views of the valleys and mountains along with other beautiful scenarios can be seen during the trek to Kang La Pass of the Manaslu region.

During the time of winter, the trails to Kang La Pass are filled with snow. Because of the slippery trail and snow all over the trekking trail, it makes it difficult to trek during the winter season. Kang La Pass is a ridge-type pass and has a steeper cross-sectional profile than the other two passes during the trek. Because of that fascinating culture and tradition of the Nepalese Tibetian can be seen.

Similarly, Thorong La Pass is also the highest point of the Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes trek. Meanwhile, Thorong La Pass is the most popular route to reach the Mustang district of Nepal from the Manang district. Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang are the mountain ranges that form the Thorong La Pass.

The trekking trails to Thorong La Pass are much more developed than the other two passes during the trek. Similarly, there are better options to stay overnight because of the number of Teahouse and Lodges available on the Annapurna Circuit. After a few hours of sunrise, strong cold winds blow around the route to Thorong La Pass which makes it impossible to cross it. Because of that almost all the trekkers spend a night at Thorong High Camp and start an early morning walk towards Thorong La Pass.

When is the best time for the Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek?

This trek will lead you to a one-of-a-kind landscape and to certain restricted areas of Nepal that are isolated from modern civilization. In Nepal, you will have the opportunity to discover the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural landscapes that the country is renowned for. The months of September, October, and November are considered the ideal times for embarking on the Manaslu Annapurna three passes treks.

During this time of year, the weather is nearly perfect. The days are warm, while the mornings and evenings are a bit chilly. The sky is clear and blue, providing uninterrupted views of the mountains throughout the walk. These are also the festive seasons in Nepal, meaning you will have the opportunity to witness the beautiful culture and traditions in the small villages and hamlets, making your trip even more delightful. The moderate amount of sunshine and low chances of rainfall make these two seasons ideal for trekking. The scenery of the mountain peaks is truly breathtaking this season.

How difficult is the Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes Trek?

The Manaslu Annapurna Three Passes trek is known for its moderate to the challenging difficulty level. Although there are a few challenges along the route, they are relatively scarce but quite demanding. This trek is a physically and mentally demanding 24-day journey that takes you through rough and rugged trails in remote areas of Nepal. Along the way, you will encounter three major high trekking passes. The Manaslu and Annapurna Circuit treks are widely regarded as some of the most challenging treks. Individually, each trek presents its own set of difficulties. However, when these two treks are combined, they create an even more formidable challenge, making it one of the toughest treks overall.

A long walk through the high alpine forest, remote and isolated valleys, steep and tiring steps, and breathtaking high passes are what you should expect during the trek. Another major challenge during this trek is the high altitude. As you will be walking in areas of high elevation, there is a potential risk of experiencing high-altitude sickness. During the trek, you will be walking at an average elevation of approximately 2,500m to 3,000m.

At this altitude, people may start to experience symptoms of altitude sickness. Walking a long distance to reach a destination in a highly elevated region can be quite challenging. However, you can take comfort in knowing that you will be accompanied by a professional guide who will prioritize your safety and ensure that you thoroughly enjoy your walk to the Himalayas. In order to participate in this trek, it is necessary to have prior hiking and trekking experience. This is because the trek is physically and mentally demanding. Having experience in walking and some knowledge of the environment will be beneficial for the upcoming trek.

Travel Insurance:

Travel insurance is important before traveling to a new place especially when you are traveling for adventure. Travel insurance covers risks such as loss of personal belongings, and any unexpected expenses. Travel insurance also covers sudden medical emergencies such as accidents. It also covers high-altitude emergency evacuation in case of trekking. Travel insurance is not compulsory but highly recommended.

Medical Emergency:

In the event of a serious medical emergency during your trekking program, you will be promptly evacuated from the area through a Helicopter Rescue service. This service is covered by the traveler's insurance company. During your trek to Nepal's highlands, it is possible that you may experience minor health issues such as scratches or headaches. In such a situation, your guide will have a well-equipped first aid kit to ensure your safety.

High-Altitude Sickness:

During the trek, you will walk through gorgeous valleys, traditional villages, and thrilling highlands above 3,000m elevation. Altitude sickness is unpredictable; it can happen to anyone despite being physically and mentally fit. As you gain altitude, the chances of getting altitude sickness also slightly increase. To avoid getting altitude sickness you should drink 5-6 lt water per/day and food with high carbohydrates. Strolling and acclimatizing decrease the chances of getting altitude sickness. Focus on your breathing and maintain your walking pace.
