A popular itinerary to explore Langtang valley. Langtang Valley is also known by the name “Valley of Glaciers”. The Langtang valley trek is a relatively short trekking trail in Nepal, also one of the 12 national parks in Nepal. This is the third most popular trekking region after Everest and the Annapurna regions of Nepal. Meanwhile, the total driving distance from Kathmandu to the starting point of the trek is 122 kilometers. Syabrubesi is the starting and ending point of the trek. The highest elevation during your 10 days of Langtang valley trek Itinerary is Kyanjin Ri situated at an elevation of 4,773m/15,660ft.
Although being one of the popular trekking trails of Nepal, there are no luxurious hotels throughout the trekking trails. Instead of that, there are various teahouses and lodges available with basic amenities. Meanwhile, camping is not required for the Langtang valley trek. Due to the earthquake of 2015, the Langtang village was wiped off. But as of now, a new Langtang Village is being built about 100 meters above the ruins of the old village. The trek difficulty of the Langtang Village Trek is moderate. Beginners with a normal fitness level can also complete the trek with proper training a few weeks before the trek.
The highest sleeping point of the trek is Kyanjin Gompa situated at an altitude of 3,870 meters above sea level. Langtang valley short trek is located in the Langtang National Park of Nepal. TIMS card and Langtang National Park Permit are mandatory to trek in this part of Nepal. Bordering Tibet, Buddhist culture and religious practices govern the lifestyle of people there. What is Langtang Valley Trek?
The Langtang valley trek itinerary is of 10 days and an extra day can be added to shop for the trek and Kathmandu valley exploration. Similarly, an extra day can also be used for sightseeing at the UNESCO World Heritage sites inside Kathmandu Valley. The total distance of the Langtang valley trek is about 80 kilometers. On average you will need to walk about 14 kilometers per day to complete the trek.
The trip normally starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which is the starting and ending point of the trek. The distance of Syabrubesi is about 122 kilometers and takes about 6 hours to reach from Kathmandu. You may experience the off-the-beat road as well. During the first day of the trek, you will pass through the rhododendron and an alpine forest to reach Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel lies at an elevation of 2,560 meters above sea level. Before reaching Langtang (valley) village for the overnight stay you will reach Ghoda Tabela situated at an elevation of 3,000 meters. As you move towards Langtang village you will witness prayers, flags, Chortens, main walls, and watermills. (Langtang valley has a strong Tibetan Buddhist culture, which you will see in the form of people’s lifestyle, culture, and monasteries)
Kyanjin Gompa is the highest sleeping point of the trek situated at an altitude of 3,830 meters above sea level. An early morning hike will take you to the Kyanjin Ri situated at 4,773 meters above sea level. On this day you will return to Kyanjin Gompa. Langtang valley trek ends at Syabrubesi following the same trail through Lama Hotel. However, if you want to explore yet another vantage point of the Langtang valley trek, that’s Tserko Ri. This hike is totally optional.
Kyanjin Ri [4,773m/15,660 ft]
Kyanjin Ri (4,773m/15,660ft) is the highest point of the Langtang valley trek. An early morning walk from Kyanjin Gompa is required to witness the marvelous views of the mountain ranges. From the top of the hill, you can witness the Langtang Lirung Mountain and Langtang Lirung glacier below the peak. Changbu and Yurba mountains can be seen on the right side of the Langtang Lirung.
Yala peak and Tserko Ri can be spotted on the northeast side of the Kyanjin Ri. Similarly, Tsergo Ri can be seen in the southwest. Getting on top of the Kyanjin Ri is not an easy task. About 3-4 hours of the walk is required to reach the top of the hill. It depends on the pace of your walk from Kyanjin Gompa. The most important things to carry during the hike to Kyanjin Ri include safe drinking water, sunscreen, and a windproof jacket.
Tserko Ri [5,033m/16,513ft]
Tserko Ri (Chergori) also known as Tsergo Ri (5,033m/16,513ft) is the peak located northeast of Baden-Powell peak. Tserko Ri is the ultimate view of the magnificent Langtang valley. It provides you with an outstanding view of numerous snow-capped mountains and the entire valley itself. From this vantage point, you get the panoramic Himalayan view of the Annapurna range, Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal (7,429m), Dorje Lakpa (6,990m), Langtang II (7,227m), Langtang Lirung (7,245m). You can reach Tserko Ri from Kyanjin Gompa within 5 hours and back in 3 hours. One must take a packed lunch and water as there is no accommodation and hotels.

Best time to visit Langtang Valley Lake Trek.
The best time to visit Langtang valley is in October, November, and December. During these months of the year, the sky is clear and amazing views of the mountains and valley can be seen. This time of year is perfect for trekking as you get to see the mountains and the valley view. July and August are not so preferable due to the monsoon season. There may be low visibility and walking in rain is not an ideal idea for trekking. The valley accepts the ever-changing climate. The trekking difficulty level is moderate.
The second best time to travel this route is in February, March, April, and May. During these months of the year, there is a minimum chance of rainfall. The beginning of these months marks the beginning of Spring in Nepal. The trail of Langtang valley trek boasts beautiful rhododendron and alpine forest and in the spring season, the trail is covered with colorful flowers making the trek even more memorable.
