Inside Kathmandu Valley
Pashupatinath temple is devoted to Shiva it is located on the holy banks of the Bagmati river. The Pashupatinath complex was built in 1692, during the time of Maha Shivaratri and Teej this place is packed with its devotees. Aarati is done every evening at 6 PM as a ritual.
Kathmandu Durbar Square (Basantapur) has an amazing history, this is the site where important events used to take place such as Royal events, the Coronation of kings, and many more. Nowadays important events like the traditional worship ceremony of Kumari are done on the premises of Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu Durbar Square is surrounded by ancient statues, small ponds, and a series of courtyards such as Mohan Chowk, Sundari Chowk, and Kumari Chowk. Buddhist Monuments Inside Kathmandu
Swayambhunath temple also known as Monkey Temple is a perfect viewpoint from where you can get a majestic view of the whole Kathmandu valley. Boudhanath Stupa is a very fascinating and spiritual sphere. Boudhanath is an important monument for Buddhists as it is devoted to Gautam Budhha. It is also known as the Khasti Chaitya. People moving around the giant white dome, monks chanting in low and placid voices, and the strong smell of divine incense will welcome you to the spiritual site. The dorm is surrounded by 108 small (Manya) prayer wheels, and colorful Lung Ta (Tibetian prayer flags) hanging from the top of the dorm. One can experience spiritual tranquility here in Boudhanath Stupa.
Kopan Monastery is located in Budhanilkantha and is just 15 mins away from Boudhanath stupa. It is a beautiful Tibetan monastery on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. Bhaktapur Durbar Square Area
Bhaktapur locally known as Khwopa has some of the most intricate wood carvings done by the Newar artisans. There are historical monuments that are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites. Many religious sites have deep meaning to them. Some of the ancient monuments are Changu Narayan, Nyatapola Temple, Pachpannajhyale Durbar (55 window palace), and many more.
Nyatapola Temple is weathered with characteristic stone sculptures, metal, and wood carvings that show the staggering skills of the bygone craftsmen. The beautifully sculptured building is the tallest temple in Nepal with its 5 storeys/5 tier roof. It is built in the traditional pagoda style. This temple is dedicated to Siddhi Lakshmi which is the wrathful manifestation of goddess Durga. It was built in about 1700 by the royalty of Bhupatrinda Malla.
Pachpannajhyale Durbar/ 55 windowed Palace This one-of-a-kind palace is located at Bhaktapur Du Palace and was built by King Bhupatindra Malla. This palace has a unique history as the legends say it was built in honor of his 55 wives. This palace is engraved with gorgeous wood carvings done by artistic Newars.
Kathmandu will welcome you with its rich historical monuments whereas Khokana will welcome you with the authentic rich smell of mustard oil. Khokana is known for its rich mustard oil production and its green paddy fields. Khokana has preserved its Petrine nature and its culture. Khoka is also known for a unique savage festival called Depukhu (Deopokhari Jatra).
Patan Durbar Square is a UNESCO world heritage site which is located in Patan city which is locally known as Lalitpur. The major attraction in Patan is Krishna Temple which is entirely carved out of single stone. It is an exquisite example of terracotta craftsmanship. Other temples and monuments are as idiosyncratic as the Krishna Temple. Bhimsen Temple, Vishwanath temple which is dedicated to God Shiva, and Taleju Bhawani Temple which is dedicated to Taleju Goddess are the attractions of this site. This place not only has beautiful architecture but also has numerous handmade souvenir shops on the way that you can collect.
Outskirts of Kathmandu Valley
Changu Narayan is the oldest temple which was built in the 2nd century and rebuilt in 1707 during the Licchavi Dynasty. The Changu Narayan is a double-roofed temple dedicated to Vishnu in his incarnation as Narayan. The outer door of these temples is a piece of art. The main shrine is guarded by sculptures of mythical beasts- winged lions, ram-horned griffons, and other beasts- Elephants, and lions. The roof struts feature some of the fantastic intricate carvings of the divine deities.
Kirtipur is also known as Kipoo in the Newari language and the entire city was designed to be a maze. There are some of the most historical monuments such as Bhag Bhairav, Aadinath Lokeshwor, Uma Maheshwor, and many more which have a very unique history attached to them. In Kirtipur there are some authentic Newari restaurants where you can try some of the delicious Newari cuisines. Nagarkot is best known for its majestic sunrise and marvelous valley view. Nagarkot is not only known for its sunrise but also its glorious mountain view. Nagarkot is located 32km northeast of Kathmandu on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu valley far from the urban cities.
Namo Buddha (Thrangu Tashi Yangtse) is one of the most visited Buddhist monasteries in Nepal located near Dhulikhel. Namo Buddha is a historical place where a special Buddhist legend of King Mahasattva offered his flesh to hungry tigers at the very place making Namo Buddha a holy site.
