Trip Overview
Mount Kailash is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. Mount Kailash is also known as Mount Meru. It is the home of the Buddha Cakrasamvara. Its height is 6,638 meters above sea level.
Hindu believe that Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is also the lord of Yoga and master of Tantra. He has spent his time in Mount Kailash practising yogic austerities. It is a divine mountain universally; its shape is like a pyramid with four nearly mirror-like sites. There are five monasteries. Nyari Monastery, Dirapuk Monastery, Songchu Monastery, Gyangzha Monastery, and Thai long Monastery. Each and every monastery has its own different stories.

Drirapuk is at an altitude of 4950 m. It is also a famous monastery on the way to the famous Kailash kora. There are two lakes, Manasarovar and Rakshastal.

Kailash Mansarovar via Lhasa
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lhasa is a 15 nights and 16 days tour to Nepal and Tibet. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you will check-in at the hotel. The next day you will take a flight to Lhasa. Depending on your flight time you can also get a few hours of free time in Lhasa. If you get free time then you can explore the places near your hotel.
During your first day of sightseeing at Lhasa, you can explore two of the most popular sites. Jokhang Temple and Potala palace are the major places that you will be exploring during your sightseeing tour at Lhasa. The next day you will take a drive to Shigatse. The distance from Lhasa to Shigatse is about 272 kilometres and it will take about 5 hours to reach. During your drive, you can witness the marvellous views of the snow-capped mountain ranges, high passes and lakes.
You will also drive to the base camp of the highest peak in the world Mount Everest and have a wonderful view of the mountain. After that, you will drive to Saga and then to Darchen via Mansarovar Lake. After that, you will take a two days trek around Mansarovar lake and finally take a drive to Mansarovar. You will take the same route to reach Saga, Shigatse and then to Lhasa. After that, you will take a flight back to Kathmandu.
Mansarovar
Lake Mansarovar is popular as Anotatta or Anavatapta. Furthermore, it is a sacred divine lake near Mount Kailash. Many people go there to take a bath because people said, taking a bath in Lake Mansarovar you will clean yourself from all the wrong things that they did in their past.
Also known by the name Swan rinpoche the total area of this lake is 410 square kilometres. Also considered as the highest freshwater lake, it lies in the far western part of Tibet. Meanwhile, it lies at an elevation of 4,583 meters above sea level.
Mount Kailash

Potala Palace
Potala Palace lies the capital of Tibet, Lhasa. Situated at an elevation of 3,700 meters above sea level it is 117 meters in height. Meanwhile the total area of this palace is 130,000 square meters. Pho Brang Potala is the Tibetan name of this palace which has 1,000 rooms. Besides that, it is also the winter palace of Dalai Lama from 1649 to 1959.
Listed under UNESCO world heritage sites in 1994, It was built by 5th Dalai Lama Songtsen Gompa. The bodies of the Dalai Lama from 5th to 13th are preserved in this palace. Meanwhile, only 2,300 visitors are allowed per day to protect the palace and visitors have an uncrowded tour of the palace.
Jokhang Temple
Jokhang Temple was built in the 7th century to display the Jowo Shakyamuni Statue of the 25-year-old Buddha. The time bore the enlightenment. The statue was created at the time when the historical Buddha lived. It is elaborately decorated with gold, jewels and precious stones. Its significance in the political structure of the past and culture of today may be found in any documentation of the temple and the city.
It took about 3 years to complete this temple and different architectural styles such as Han style, Tiberian style, Nepalese style and Indian style can be seen. The actual name of this temple is Resa and the meaning of Re is the ‘Goats’ and Sa means ‘Earth.’ The name was given to show the graduation to the goats who carried all the materials used to build the temple. After the 15th century, the temple was named Jokhang Temple.
Yamdrok lake
Yamdrok Lake lies in Nagarze County of Shannan City, southwest China's Tibet autonomous region. It is believed that this sacred lake is able to help Tibetians find the reincarnation soul of the Dalai Lama. Embraced by the uninterrupted snow-capped mountains and lying under the clear blue sky it is one of the must places to visit in Tibet. Meanwhile, Yamdrok Lake appears very holy and evokes solemnity.
The Tibetian name of Yamdrok lake is Yamdrok Yumtso. Various species of fish are found inside the lake but are illegal to catch. Situated at an elevation of 4,441 meters above sea level it lies about 170 kilometres away from Lhasa. Similarly, the maximum length of this lake is 72 kilometres and the maximum depth is 60 meters.
Mount Everest
We will be driving through high mountain ranges, going through several high passes and Everest viewpoints. We will reach a tent camp near the Everest Base Camp in the evening. It will take about 3 days of driving to reach Everest Base Camp of Tibet from Lhasa city. Meanwhile, the distance from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp is about 620 kilometres.
After reaching the Everest Base Camp you can have marvellous views of Everest along with other snow-capped mountains. Besides that during your drive to Everest Base Camp from Lhasa, you can also witness some of the marvellous views of the high mountain ranges, mountain passes as well as lakes. North Mount Everest Base Camp lies at an elevation of 5,200 meters above sea level in the Gamegou of Qudang Township, Shigatse.
Rongbuk Monastery
Depending on the traffic and weather conditions, we might have time to visit the Rongbuk monastery – the highest monastery in the world. There is a meditation cave, dating back to the 8th century, where Padmasambhava meditated. We will stay there for a few quiet minutes to relax after a long day.
