Tachogang Lhakhang is a quiet monastery located on the outskirts of Paro valley. Tachogang means ‘’Temple of the hill of excellent horses’’ in the Bhutanese language. It was built by Thangtong Gyalpo as it is believed he saw a spiritual horse Balaha-an emanation of Avalokiteshvara,  while he was meditating. To reach this monastery one has to cross the Pachhu (Paro river) through an iron bridge. This isn't just any other iron brie that you see, it was built in the 14th century by a great architect Thangtong Gyalpo. He built 108 iron bridges throughout Bhutan and Tibet one of which is present in the Tachogang Lhakhang.

National Memorial Chorten also known as Memorial Stupa or Thimphu Chorten located in Doeboom Lam in the southern central part of the city.  It was built in 1974 to commemorate the third king of the Wangchuck Dynasty. This stupa is easily recognizable with its white-washed walls decorated with dazzling golden annexes. It is located in a perfect place from where you get the beautiful valley view and can spend some peaceful time there. The ambience is tranquil with the imposing monument where you will get a warm vibe from all the butter lamps lit in the memories of descended loved ones. Simtokha Dzong (‘’Dzong’’meaning small Castle-monastery) also known as Sangak Zabdhon Phodrang which translates to ‘’Place of the profound meanings of secret  Mantras’’ is a small monastery. It is situated in the southern region of Thimphu also this Dzong is one of the few monuments built in the early 17th century and is still intact in its original form. Acknowledging the expert artisan of Bhutanese architecture, Simtokha Dzong is one of the most visited attractions in Bhutan. Once inside the Dzong, you will see the journey of Gautam Buddha on the walls in the form of beautiful murals. Inside the monastery, if you look around you might as well see the preserved Tiger’s tails and gun hanging on the pillar of the Simtokha Dzong.

Takshichho Dzong

Tashichho Dzong also known as Tashichho Dzong nestled along the bank of the Wang Chu river which is the historical fortress-like monastery in Thimphu. Tashichhoe was originally known as Dho-Nyon (Blue-stone) Dzong. Tashichho stands for ‘’Fortress of Auspicious Doctrine’’in its native language. This is one of the most breathtaking landmarks in Bhutan with eye-catching white painted walls with iconic red roofs successfully captivating the attention of the visitors. The beauty of the building is well complemented by the lush green valley and open space around the site.

Kuensel Phodrang also known as the Buddha point and also known for housing one of the biggest Buddha statues, the great Buddha Dordenma. Dochula Pass

The total number of 108 memorial Chorten consists of 107 mini Chorten with one large Choten also known as ‘’Druk Wangyal Chorten”. Punakha Dzong also known as Puntang Dewa Chhenbi Phodrang is the most immersive Dzong in Punakha valley. In its native language, it translates to “Palace of great happiness’’. It is situated along the banks of the Mo Chhu and Po Chuu rivers on the fringes of the main town of Punakha. This iconic landmark was built in 1638 AD and is the 2nd oldest and 2nd largest Dzong in Bhutan. Changangkha Lhakhang is a  Buddhist fortress-like monastery built in the 12th century in Thimphu, Bhutan. Day 01

Arrival in Paro, Drive to Thimphu

After landing in this mysterious country known as the land of Thunder Dragon, finish with your airport formality and baggage collection. Bhutan is one of the few countries that was never colonized and is successful in preserving its culture. After you land, Welcome! To a country that was never occupied by any foreign country.

After driving from Paro to Thimphu check in at your hotel, rest your bags and get ready to be thrilled by the beauty and the culture of this amazing country. Start your journey by exploring the famous fortress-like monastery Tachogang Lhakhang located on the outskirts of Paro valley. The history of the place along with the view will fascinate you.

Next, drive to the National Memorial Chorten which was built in the loving memory of the third Dragon king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Here you get to see a beautiful ritual which is circumambulation around the Chorten. The warmth from all the butter lamps lit in the honor of the deceased will melt your heart. After that move towards yet another culturally rich monument Simtokha Dzong and soak in your first culturally immersive day in Bhutan. Day 02

Drive to Punakha

Today you will feast your eyes and soul with the charm of Bhutan. Before you go out to explore the history, culture and myths have your warm breakfast at the hotel and enjoy the Bhutanese cuisine. Driving towards the Kuensel Phodrang also knows the Buddha's point. Overlooking the celestial backdrop of Thimphu valley which is one of the iconic valleys of this country Bhutan. The giant figure of the Great Buddha Dordenma is one of the biggest statues of a sitting Buddha in the world.

The next stop is DochuLa Pass (3100m) where you will stop for some and explore the pass. DochuLa Pass is the collection of 108 memorial Chorten in honor of the late soldiers. Besides having deep history this place also provides exquisite views of the snow-laden Himalayas followed by the green valleys. After visiting DochuLa Pass drive towards Chimi Lhakhang, The Fertility Temple. This Monterey is well-known throughout Bhutan as a fertility-inducing center. Thousands of people visit the monastery to get blessings from saints. Last but not least visit the most iconic landmark, Punakha Dzong which is the second largest and second oldest landmark present in Bhutan. It takes around 3 hours to drive from Thimphu city. This majestic building lies between two main rivers Mo Chu (Female) and Pho Chu (Male). In the spring season, this place looks out of the world with all the flowering trees around the landmark. Day 03

Journey to Paro, and visit the National Takin Preserve

After breakfast, you will depart from your hotel and drive toward Changangkha Lhakhang which is a significant temple for children born in Thimphu as it is believed that the protective deity of children resides in the particular temple. The children are blessed by the Phurba (Ritual Dagger) and given a sacred thread. The next stop is Motithang Takin Preserve. The area is the forested preserve area that mimics the Takin’s natural habitat. Here you will see the national animal of Bhutan free in its natural habitat. (If you want to watch Takin up close, visit the preserve at the feeding time when the takings are close to the fence.) Not only does the preserve allow you to see these animals with your own eyes, you also get a panoramic view of the nearby valley.

Stop by a restaurant and have lunch before you go any further sightseeing. After lunch visit, Zilukha Nunnery locally known as Thangtong Dewachen Nunnery. It is a small and traditional nunnery that is located in the hills of the Himalayan country Zilukha, Thimphu overlooking Tashichho Dzong. This nunnery houses around 60 nuns. After that explore yet another impressive monastery, Rinpung Dzong (3990m) also known as the ‘’Fortress on the heap of jewels’’. This majestic landmark dominates the valley with its glamor. Day 04

Paro Sightseeing

A trip to Bhutan is incomplete without a visit to the most iconic monastery in the world, Taktsang Monastery (2950m) internationally known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. You will take an early morning breakfast and stretch your legs and get ready for a short hike. This hike is challenging and is the main reason that protects this unbelievable attraction from being congested.     Yes, on arrival in Bhutan, the traveler must present their passport, 2 photographs, and the fee of USD 50 to receive the original visa sticker. A visitor's visa can only be approved through a licensed tour operator in Bhutan. However, you can also get the visa by filling up an online form.

  • How many flights are there in a day to Bhutan from abroad?

    There are about 6 flights a week except for Monday from Kathmandu to Paro. The flight distance between the two cities is around 400 km and takes 1 and a half hours by flight from Kathmandu to Paro. From Bangladesh - Dhaka there are flights on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. From Singapore - Changi there are only two fights a week which are on Sunday and Thursday. From Thailand - Bangkok there are flights throughout the week.

  • How to get a Bhutan Visa?

    To get the Bhutan Visa one must forward a letter to the head of the department addressed to Dy. Chief of Protocol. Get a note sheet from the concerned ministry, fill up the visa form application, and also need a copy of your original passport. After you get the visa it's valid for 6 months. Also, you are required to pay 200 USD per day as a tourist fee.

  • Can we visit Bhutan except then from Nepal?
    Yes, there are direct flights to Bhutan from Singapore (Changi) on Sunday at 06:30 AM and Thursday at 10: 30 AM. Bangladesh (Dhaka) Friday, Saturday, and Monday at 09:20 AM and 10:20 AM. Thailand (Bangkok) daily flight from 05:15 AM, 06:30 AM, and 01:10 PM with half an hour layover in India (Kolkata). And from major cities of India (New Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati, and Gaya). Which might change according to weather conditions.

    To reach the famous monastery one has to reach the start point first. One has to cover around 12 km from the center of Paro city which takes around 30 mins. After you reach the start point of the hike it takes around 2 hours on average to get to the top of the hill and the iconic monastery.

  • What are Bhutan's tourist restrictions?

    All foreigners entering Bhutan must have a COVID-19 Negative certificate and without that, you are not allowed to visit Bhutan. And the tourists must have a valid visa and necessary travel documents. Travelers are also restricted to traveling or trekking alone.
