Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is a short 3 days trek from Kathmandu. It is one of the most beautiful hikes to witness the waterfalls, mountains as well as the rural village life near Kathmandu. It is ideal for those travelers having less time and still want to taste the authentic Nepali culture. During your trek, you will go through the Chisapani Nagarkot hiking route and mesmerize some of the high mountains such as Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, Manaslu, Gaurishankar etc from the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. This short hike can also be extended by Chisapani, Nagarkot and Dhulikhel trek. Although being near Kathmandu valley the hotels in Chisapani Nagarkot trek are few in number and provide some of the basic facilities. Chisapani Nagarkot Trek from Kathmandu is one of the best ways to enjoy nature around the Kathmandu Valley in a short period of time. Starting from Sundarijal the trek passes through the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park to reach the Chisapani village for the overnight stay. You will start your Chisapani Nagarkot trek from Kathmandu. You will take a drive to Sundarijal about 15 km away from Kathmandu and then you will start your trek. During your day you will see some of the high waterfalls and pass through rhododendron and oak forest. Throughout the trip, you will also get to witness some of the amazing mountain ranges during clear weather. Sunrise and Sunset view from the top of Nagarkot hill is also one of the main attractions of this trek. Meanwhile, you can also stop over at Changunarayan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square after you reach Bhaktapur. Best time for Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

February to June is the best time for Chisapani Nagarkot Trek. Similarly, another favorable season for this trek is September to November. During these months of the year, the sky is clear and you can have amazing views of the mountain ranges. You can also have an amazing view of the Kathmandu Valley. December and January are very cold in Nepal and the trail also may be covered in snow. July and August are the rainy seasons in Nepal so it is better to avoid these months. However, with the proper arrangement, Chisapani Nagarkot Trek can be done throughout the year.

Summary of Chisapani Nagarkot Trek

Chisapani Nagarkot Trek starts from Sundarijal after driving 45 minutes from Kathmandu. It is an easy and short trek near Kathmandu valley. The initial hike follows the forested route from Sundarijal towards Chisapani. During the trek in the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, you can witness some of the amazing views of the mountain ranges too. The trek starts after the sightseeing of the UNESCO World heritage sites inside Kathmandu Valley. Among the 7 World Heritage sites Kathmandu Valley you will be exploring the 4 heritage sites.

Sundarijal is about 15 km away from Kathmandu and it will take about an hour to reach. After arriving at Sundarijal you will start your trek towards Chisapani. It will take about 5 hours of a walk but before that, you will pass through Mulkharka village and the forest of oaks and rhododendron before reaching Chisapani. You will pass through several villages like Jhule, Chauki Bhanjyang etc. In clear weather, you can have an amazing view of the mountains such as Mt. Jugal, Dorje Lakpa, Manaslu, Gaurishankar etc. It will take about 6 hours to reach Nagarkot situated at an elevation of 2,175 meters above sea level.

Marvelous views of the mountain ranges can be seen from the top of the Nagarkot hilltop during the morning time. You will move toward Changu Narayan Temple for exploration. Changu Narayan Temple is also one of the UNESCO Heritage sites inside Kathmandu valley. It is a vintage temple with lots of history and architecture beneath it. You can also visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square if you are interested. You will drive to Kathmandu and check-in the hotel.

Chisapani

Situated about 2,215 meters above sea level, Chisapani is one of the favorite hiking places near Kathmandu. It is one of the nearest places from Kathmandu that can offer amazing mountain ranges and high waterfalls. Chisapani means “Cold Water” in English and lies in Shivapuri National Park. The oak and rhododendron forest are also the main highlights of the trek. Mainly Brahmin, Gurungs and Sherpas live in Chispani. Starting the hike from Sundarijal is the most popular and the easiest way to reach Chisapani. 

Nagarkot

Nagarkot is one of the popular tourist spots near Kathmandu valley. Most of the tourists visit Nagarkot sunrise and sunset view. With an altitude of 2,175 meters above sea level, Nagarkot is the best place to witness some of the beautiful mountain ranges. Some of the mountain ranges include Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Jugal etc. October to April is the best time to visit Nagarkot Nepal to have an amazing view of such mountain ranges.
